School data from statutory testing versus National average is shown below:
Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA)
This is an interactive and practical assessment of a child's early literacy, communication, language, and mathematics skills 🧠. It's carried out in the first six weeks of a child's time in Reception (the first year of primary school) by a teacher. The assessment results are not published publicly and are used to measure the progress a pupil makes from the start of primary school to the end of Key Stage 2. There's no 'pass' or 'fail'.
🗣️ Phonics Screening Check
Administered in the summer term of Year 1, this check is a short, one-on-one assessment to ensure pupils have a solid grasp of phonetic decoding skills needed for reading. Children are asked to read 40 words, including 20 real words and 20 'alien' words (non-words) that follow phonics rules. If a pupil doesn't meet the expected standard, they'll retake the check in Year 2.
✍️ Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
This is an online, on-screen assessment taken by pupils in Year 4 to test their fluency in multiplication tables up to 12 x 12. It consists of 25 questions, with six seconds to answer each one. The purpose is to determine if pupils can recall multiplication facts quickly and accurately.
📝 Key Stage 2 (KS2) SATs
The Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) are formal, timed exams taken by Year 6 pupils at the end of primary school. They are used to measure pupil attainment and progress from the end of Key Stage 1 to the end of Key Stage 2. The tests cover:
-
English Reading 📖
-
English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPaG) ✍️
-
Mathematics (three papers: arithmetic and two reasoning papers) ➕➖✖️➗
Pupils receive a scaled score for each subject, with a score of 100 or more indicating they have met the expected standard. Additionally, pupils are assessed by their teachers in writing and science. These teacher assessments, along with the test results, are reported to parents and used for school accountability purposes.
